Jay Sean called his song "Sadke Java" his favorite tune of 2009. He dominated the charts and headlined last summer's melas. His father is the lead singer of the legendary Bhangra group Heera. Who are we talking about? The young and talented H-Dhami of course.
H- Dhami signed to the Rishi Rich camp in 2007 and made his debut in 2008. His debut was not unrecognized as he snagged the U.K. AMA (Asian Music Award) for Best Newcomer in 2008 and Best Act in 2009.
When we asked H-Dhami about the praise he received from Jay Sean he said, "It was very unexpected. I thought 'Wait, hang on, is this happening?' It was great to hear, very inspiring." With these parting words from Jay Sean in 2009, we asked H if he has any resolutions for 2010. "My resolution is to work harder. I want to get my second album done and would like it ready by this summer."
This is ambitious for H because he is not only working on this second album; he is also working on a couple of other projects and touring simultaneously. "Rishi Rich produced my album and is overlooking the production of the remix album." H-Dhami told us, "Panjabi By Nature has remixed the song 'Nachdi Vekhna' and En Karma, from Canada, has created a remix too." H-Dhami's remix album is part of a two piece release. There will also be a DVD: "It [the DVD] highlights my journey, the start of my career up to today. There is footage of gigs and late night studio sessions." Fans will be able to get a better sense of what H-Dhami has gone through in order to become the success he is today.
So will we be seeing any more music videos for this album? "No, there will be no more videos," H-Dhami revealed, "I am working on my second album and wrapping up my first single. That will be the next video. I want to move on to the next thing, not be stuck in a bubble." We love it! H-Dhami has given us some hot videos so a new album with new videos can only offer even greater quality.
H-Dhami also spoke to us about his Desi remix for Mumzy Stranger's song "One More Dance." "We [the Rishi Rich camp] are a big happy family and we work well together. We all benefit from this. We bounce off of each other's ideas. It's organic." There is no doubt that the Rishi Rich camp gives us some of the hottest music on the scene, but what is H's dream Bhangra collaboration?
"I cannot wait to work with my father. He has inspired me! We are in the process of working this out. It will happen in due time." We can't wait for this duet. As H-Dhami embarks on his busy year, he wants to say "Thank you to all my fans for appreciating my music. All my new fans, I hope you enjoy my music. 2010 is going to be a big year."
Well there you have it DesiHits! readers; the low down on what we can expect from H-Dhami this year. His remix album and DVD will be the first to hit the scene with the second album close behind. He is also keeping busy with live performances and a tour.
Let us know what you are most excited for from H-Dhami this year.
