Jaz Dhami is undeniably a very talented Bhangra artist and as he tours around the world his fan pool expands. His immersion and training in music make it easy to see why Jaz Dhami is quickly becoming a favorite in the music scene. His album drops today and DesiHits! was able to get exclusive insight to what makes Jaz Dhami a force to be reckoned with.
Jaz gives a lot of credit to his training. "I did most of my training from my teacher, and then I continued training in Punjab after six years of schooling from Professor Hari Dev Ji and I continued my training there in Punjab at Chandigarh University and then I came back to England where I was accepted into the Paul McCartney School of Music which was amazing and a great honor. It was amazing to perform in front him and it gave me a great opportunity," he said.
He continued to explain his background that has immensely guided his career. He said, "I'm obviously a UK artist, and I have a UK approach but I have done the majority of my training in India and definitely want to pursue my career in Bollywood and I need to establish myself as a playback singer that is my ultimate goal. My next song is a Punjabi song, but I've actually recorded it in Mumbai. It's a very emotional song. It gave me a chance to challenge myself vocally. I think it definitely helped me to enter my musical journey."
Jaz Dhami has potential to transcend into the arena of being one of the next big singers in Bollywood movies. He even told us that his "uncle is actually a music director for Bollywood, and I've learned a lot from him. He's got a recording studio in Mumbai so I've got a chance to use that and see some legendary artists like Lata Ji. I've looked up to people like Lata Ji all my life."
He was certain to tell us that right now he's "just exploring, he said that "my aim right now is to release this album and I've got a couple collaborations I'm working on that I can't name...I used six different producers that broadened that element to my album, that's mainly what I've been doing this with album."
Said Jaz Dhami, "I have a very female based audience so this album is aimed at them-especially in the UK, people will enjoy it from my dad's age to people my age. It has helped me improve my Punjabi and Hindi-songs for older audiences. Many artists claim they cater to all audiences, but I don't think that many actually reach everyone. I can honestly say I've tried my best to cater to every age group from five years old to fifty-five years old." He named another artist who did this, "For example, Sukshinder Shinda-he is for everyone not just kids."
Jaz Dhami kindly shared that his "favorite track is 'Tera Mera' because it was the biggest challenge in terms of vocal arrangement. It was nerve-racking, the first video was in Las Vegas which was actually amazing. It was directed by Jazz Virk and was the Best Video of 2008... good experience because he is obviously very good at what he does. We filmed in Vegas, and Birmingham."
Jaz Dhami's "lifestyle has [also] changed," he's gone "from being a normal guy to not being able to go out community events without being noticed. I see people appreciate my music [and] that for me is a big thing." He continued by saying that he'll have many "collaborations coming out later this year; my teacher from Mumbai and I are gonna do a duet. It's a very Mumbai/Hindi vibe. I'm in talks with a few labels in Mumbai," Jaz Dhami reveals that his dream collaboration is Asha Bhosle Ji and Sukwinder Singh.
