Interview with G-Deep

Deep has had quite a successful career so far with his solo album as well as his work on B Projekt's album "Blind Folded," which also featured Juggy D. With the year 2010 just getting started, G-Deep is promising us big things on not only on the Desi music scene,
but also on the mainstream scene.
G-Deep is currently working on a number of projects. He is shooting his video for "Naal Nachona" from the album "Blind Folded" as well as his next video for Cappadonna's album. He has also wrapped his video shoot for the song "Nach Le" featuring Cappadonna and Senjay, which is expected to release on January 15. We got a taste of G-Deep's video for "Nach Le" as well as his upcoming music and it all sounds hot!
So we wanted to know all about G-Deep; who he is and what he has up his sleeve. We sat down with him at his studio and asked all the questions.Q? Let's start at the beginning. Who is G-Deep?
G-Deep: I am the son of Hind, but my mother is Punjabi. So whatever you are gonna find in India I'll do it. Whether it is Punjabi, Hindi, Tamil, Telegu, I'll do it in the future. But for now, I am working on my English album cause I'm over here [In the United States] for the next couple of years.
Q? Which artists have influenced and inspired you?
G-Deep: Gurdas Mann, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saab. These are my two biggest, I still listen to them. You can learn from their music and their own style. Gurdas Mann writes his own songs and I write all my own too, that's why I love him, and his stage performances.
Q? Have you always wanted to be a singer/songwriter?
G-Deep: Yes! This is my dream, day one, 12 years old. Actually, I was gonna go to school and become a police officer. I even took the exam, but that didn't go as planned.
Q? How did the collaboration with B Projekt come about on his album "Blind Folded?"
G-Deep: My friend, Raja Wilco, told me about Bunty Arora (B Projekt). Bunty was trying to get in touch with me. I laid one song down and I actually did three songs on the album. He [B Projekt] liked my talent, my voice and from there and went on.
Q? What was is like working with Juggy D and will you two be working together in the future?
G-Deep: He is a really cool guy. Me and him click. He is a good performer and respects people and their talent. We will be collaborating together for...something. It is going to be really big.
Q? Having toured for the album "Blind Folded," which is your favorite place to perform?
G-Deep: India! I love India man.
Q? You recently collaborated with Cappadonna of Wu Tang Clan. How did this collaboration come about?
G-Deep: We met Cappadonna, we didn't think that this collaboration was gonna get that big. We were just looking for a rapper, but then when Cappadonna came through, he loved the track so much he wanted to get on it and wanted to put it on his album, so we made the collaboration huge! America is ready for that Indian stuff now, we have enough Indians here that we can make it bang. I sing in Hindi so it's not only Indians. Hindi and Urdu is the same thing so now we will also get into the Pakistani market.
Q? Raised in Philadelphia and now recording in New Jersey, what's it like being a Desi artist trying to represent America?
G-Deep: America hasn't had its time yet. This is our time! We as Desi artists are going to be rapping it hard, there's my man Bigram Singh doing it up. It's a good feeling because we are the pioneers. As an Indian artist, I'm rapping it hard for America, we will be getting love.Q? What is your final message for all the Desi Hits! readers?
G-Deep: Listen to good music, and just support. Especially my American people, let's rep it hard. Show your support. The only way we can grow is if you support.
Will G-Deep truly be able to make 2010 the year for not only Desi artists to represent on the Desi music scene but also the year for Desi to keep pushing mainstream? Leave us your thoughts below.
